The cable supported structural glazing system created for the MIT Brain & Cognitive Sciences Building presented an extremely challenging design requirement: In order for the system to be structurally balanced, the cables had to be pre-tensioned to over 41,000 pounds. Since there was no way to manually tighten the clevises to that degree, AGT designed a tension net solution which incorporates a sacrificial hydraulic cylinder positioned inside the king post. | |
