Frank Gehry’s Stata Center at MIT represents some of the most complex applications of skylight design, and vertical glass design, ever completed. The project consists of 40 structural glass elements. Its design challenges included custom extrusions, engineered components (every perimeter detail is unique), and a reinforced structure that must accommodate the extreme building movement that is possible with individual, clustered buildings. AGT’s custom design process included the development of a proprietary software interface, to translate Gehry’s Catia modeling software files into AutoCad. Our software interface allowed the Gehry team to overlay AGT’s 3D skylight and curtain wall designs onto their own Catia design models. Structural testing for Stata was also uncommonly extensive. AGT built and tested its skylights and curtain wall for a 200 year return period - twice the length of the standard period. | |
